Nikon have announced the D60 which replaces the D40X with immediate effect, and a raft of new Nikkors and Coolpix compact digital cameras.
My prayers have finally been answered with the introduction of the PC-E 24mm f/3.5D ED Nano coat tilt/shift lens. To sum up my initial impressions having handled one for the first time yesterday afternoon - absolutely fabulous, although I could see noticeable vignetting from around 10mm to full shift extension on a D3 but the tilt movement showed no ill effects. The new gets even better with a 45mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/2.8 to follow shortly. All three feature an electronic stop down as opposed to the mechanical stop down of the current PC-Micro 85mm f/2.8D. The new 24mm T/S has a minimum focus distance of just 0.21m so true close-up pictures will be possible.
The new AF-S Micro 60mm f/2.8G is also delightful and feature an internal focus mechanism, so there is no lens extension and the front element does not rotate either.
Mr Jeremy Glbert, Nikon UK, also eluded to the fact that more Nikkor lenses are on the way, including fast aperture primes - it looks as though 2008 is set to be a bumper year for Nikon photographers!!!

"The D60 replaces the D40x only - the D40 remains in production (D50 production ceased with introduction of the D40). As a 6MP camera Nikon feel there is sufficient difference, principally on price, to retain the D40 in their range as their entry level D-SLR.
Looking at basic specifications the principle difference between the D40x and D60 is the use of Nikon's new Expeed processing engine in the new model, which was introduced with the D300 / D3. The D60 appears to have the same 10.2MP CCD sensor as the D40X, with the same shutter unit."
